The Free State Symphony Orchestra
is thrilled to announce the return
of the Youth Concerto Festival!
The 2025 Free State Symphony Orchestra’s Youth Concerto Festival will be held in the Odeion,
University of the Free State, on 9 August 2025. Young singers and instrumentalists are offered
the opportunity to rehearse and perform with the Free State Symphony Orchestra.
Please note the following:
- Age restriction:
– Singers should be younger than 27 (on the day of the concert)
– Instrumentalists should be 24 or younger (on the day of the concert) - In-person auditions take place on 13 June 2025 in Bloemfontein.
- Video auditions need to be sent to FSSO@ufs.ac.za by 9 June 2025.
- Candidates who wish to audition in person, as well as the selected soloist performers, are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses.
- Candidates must be South African citizens or permanent residents.
- Candidates must arrange for their own accompanist.
- Instrumentalists are required to play one or two movements from a concerto or single movement work for solo instrument and orchestra, not exceeding 15 minutes.
- Singers must perform an aria or suitable part of a work for voice and orchestra.
- We reserve the right not to allow a piece to be auditioned due to the cost of music rental and the size of the orchestra required to perform the work. (If in doubt, please get in touch with the FSSO.)
- Successful candidates must perform the same work at the concert as at the audition.
- Candidates must be available for rehearsals from 7 to 9 August 2025.
